No class 10/4 - Assignment is below (read ASAP)

Dearest Class!

I am so sorry, but I won't be able to come to class tomorrow.

Here's the plan  (each class has DIFFERENT things to do, so check if you are in the AM (meets at 10:30 AM) or PM (meets at 1:00 PM) class.

If you are in the AM class, please continue to work on the blogs you have due for Thursday.  In addition, please complete all of the reading you have due for this week (listed on the syllabus).  Any questions, write me at emccormick@lagcc.cuny.edu.  This week is about happiness at work.

If you are in the PM class,  your blogs are still due at midnight tonight.  In addition, I would like you to write 3 or more long and detailed comments on your peers' blogs.  These should be at least 5-6 sentences long and provide information on a) the post's strengths, b) places where it can be improved and c) suggestions to help improve it.  These are due by midnight tomorrow (Monday).  In addition, for Thursday, please complete all of the reading you have due for this week (listed on the syllabus).  This week is about happiness at work.   Any questions, write me at emccormick@lagcc.cuny.edu.

Last but not least, I'd like both groups to watch the following video before Thursday.   Try to comment - briefly - in the comment section below!

  1. I can relate to what Tony Robbins said about how people don't follow through their goals because they don't have the right emotion. He stated that people always use excuses like they lacked money, technology, etc. He said that if people are really motivated they will find a way to follow through their goals. I would tell myself the same thing, using excuses when really my "emotion" wasn't right. He said to target something and then think of how to get those needs. If we're really passionate about something we should make our best efforts to go through with it. He also said that giving back is a way of appreciation, even if you don't know the people, it will give us fulfillment. I thought his story of giving back was inspiring and an example to what many people should begin to do.

  2. I enjoyed this film. I believe everything that Tony said because i belive its true. Many poeple act off their emotins and they really dont life for the day. Emotins is indeed an altermate resource that many do not pay attention. The needs he listed made me think of differnt things that I can change and do differently. You do not always need others to help you ahceive. As long as you have the strength and an internal drive to acheive then anything is possible. Many people need to live their llives and stop waiting until something bad happens to want to start. This film was ao far my favorite one.

  3. I really enjoyed this TED video by Tony Robbins. He really sounded true and sincere with his topics. Yes, I think we all have the capacity to make decisions in our lives. Making the right decision sometimes can be hard or easy. De-cession is the ultimate power! I can relate to what Tony says. There was one choice in my life that changed my life. Contributing my time in the armed forces for my country. I was not sure what I was getting into at first, but now I'm glad I went through with it. He was correct when he said people change once they start contributing. He also states that there are 6,000 emotions. Some that are powering and some empowering. I found that very interesting. These emotions help build the quality of our lives. They can make or break us in the end. Yes, In general we all construct maps and believes to achieve goals in life. It would be hard to even think about creating a business or relationship without one has he states. Excellent video once again!

  4. I found this film to be one of my favorites so far. The thing Tony Robbins said were so true in my personal opinion. His story were touching and I do believe that we can make decisions in our lives for the better. His stories inspired me to be better and I do believe that you do get a good feeling when you do something good not just for "brownie points" as he stated but just for yourself does feel good as I have done so myself and know that at the end I do have a better feeling. His story of 9/11 was so touching and I almost got upset when I thought he wasn't going to finish but at the end he spoke the truth about getting people and making a indirect negotiation and to make peace which I thought was really good.

  5. This video show us how emotions are the life power. Tony Robbins talks about how we try to justify our failure by saying things like we did not have time or we didn't have the best manager etc. This means that we embody the lack of resources and as he explains this is not the determining factor because it is never the resource, but the emotion you have in front of something. I learned one thing from this video if we are creative enough and if we have an emotional competence we can achieve what we want. This is a good video, I really enjoyed becuse helps me to understand that sometimes I err when I lose the right emotion about something.

  6. Tony Robbins mentions in this video that Emotion is the force of life.Human beings have great minds and emotions(invisible force) which can make anything possible. I agree with him when he says that when we fail to achieve our goals we start backing up with various reasons like we didn't had money or knowledge or time or Technology.I learned two Master lessons-1)science of achievement for example how we dream around something and make it happen.2)Art of fulfillment-It's about appreciation and contribution.I was amazed when he said that we have 6,000 emotions. An individual experiences only 12 emotions on an average per week, out of which half of them are bad feelings and only 5 to 6 are good ones. His personal experience which changed his life and he started doing charity is very emotional. After watching this video, I also learned that there are 6 human needs. I also agree with him that our focus should be to serve somebody else. I have also experienced that 'giving' fills us with happiness and satisfaction. Overall, I enjoyed watching this informative video.

  7. This was a very interesting video. i like how he manage his explanation of life and emotion. His story about thanks giving, i like what he did froma few families to 8 then started a foudation, Epspcially the fact he said he enjoyed doing it. from what i can understand emotion is a very important key role at doing something in life. i also like how overall he was very straight to the point and how he explained about how certain things in life work and how what to do where it was bad or good situations.

  8. I agree with everything that Tony Robinson said in this video. He has so many good points in life and he really showed how you can appreciate life, and yourself. He said decisions shape our destiny, and that is very true. Im glad I saw this video because it taught me the six basic needs and how I can grow and impact someone else. It also taught me how to make the decisions I come across with in my everyday life. This was a very good video and I really enjoyed watching it.

  10. I've seen many Tony Robbins videos, and listened to many of his tapes. My mom actually has the whole set and she listens to it every morning before work! I also totally agree with him about making things happen. Its easy to do what you think you want and not feel fufillment because youre not prepared for it. The way he talks about wealthy peoples happiness and people with struggles happiness reminds me of the underpriveleged of privelege from the reading. I very much enjoyed this video, it made me think about the way i make decisions & how they can affect me in the future. He's very funny and he makes it easy to relate to him.

Some of this emotions can be powering and others empowering. I agree with Robbins when he says that “emotions is the force of life”, I think this is true because sometimes emotions play an important role in the decisions we make. I learned a lot from this video, so far is one of my favorites.

  15. Tony Robbins fully described the thrive of emotions and how we as humans can see progress and meet our goals and be successful. If we will look deep within our selves and look towards a positive perspective of what our targets are to make an emotion that really feeds our psychology.
He also explained the many excuses people make when we fail to gain our objectives and it left me surprised and to know that its totally true. That money, time, and lack of positive thinking are the reasons that we don,t reach our objectives. It was good to learn that with emotion we could meet everything we dream of and never underestimate our selves.

  17. I agree with Ken Robbins views. I believe that doing something positive will give you a sense of filfullment. You will be satisfied. I've learned that our emotions are stronger than we think. At the end of his speech, he spoke about two men who had different emotional views on the 9/11. The two men came together and wrote a book. I would like to read this book.
